2015 Book Blogger Love-A-Thon*Hosted by Alexa Loves Books*

I’m so excited to be participating in this event again this year! I had SO much fun last year and discovered so many awesome new blogs & bloggers in 2014 because of it!

The event kicks off right now, starting with our introductions and continues throughout today until 9pm and picks up again tomorrow for another full day of fun!

1. What’s your name?

Lauren!

2. Where in the world are you blogging from?

I am blogging from Ontario! I live just outside of Toronto.

3. How did you get into blogging in the first place?

I used to blog all through high school, but when I went to University I got out of it. Several years ago, I discovered Goodreads, which pointed me towards book blogging! I had no idea such a thing existed and within a month of discovering the community, I decided to start my own book blog and haven’t looked back!

4. How did you come up with your blog name?

Haha, I actually didn’t: my sister did! I was having a really hard time with thinking of a name, I’m not so great at things like that and the ones I was coming up with were very generic. It took my sister next to no time to come up with this one, and I immediately liked it and it definitely suits me! I constantly ‘lose’ hours of time because I’m wrapped up in a book. Sometimes it feels like I’m only reading for a few minutes and then it turns out to be hours 🙂

5. What genre do you read and review the most on your blog?

It’s definitely Young Adult. Lately though, I am choosing more adult fiction and new adult fiction, so that is going to be making a large appearance in 2015 as well!

6. What other types of posts do you do on your blog, apart from reviews?

I participate in Top Ten Tuesday, Stacking the Shelves, readathons, challenges, discussion posts, and bookish organizations. I’m hoping to add a few new things to the mix in 2015 as well!

7. Best blogging experience so far?

Even though I haven’t met any of them yet, I have met some very dear friends through blogging <3

8. Favorite thing about the blogging community?

Definitely interacting with so many people who loves books as much as me! I don’t have a lot of friends that love books as much as I do, or even understand how I love them so much, so it’s so fun to be ‘surrounded’ by people who enjoy and freak out about books as much as me 🙂

9. Name the 5 books you’re most excited for this 2015!

Haha, wow… that’s every changing, but these five are definitely ones I will be rushing out to the store to pick up!

• Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
• The Rose Society by Marie Lu
• Finding Audrey by Sophie Kinsella
• A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
• The Fill-In Boyfriend by Kasie West

10. What’s an underrated book or series that you think everyone should read?

Oh wow, there are definitely a lot of books that could fit into this category! Off the top of my head, I’m going to say the Serenity’s Plain Secrets series by Karen Ann Hopkins. It’s an Amish mystery/thriller adult fiction series and it’s just fantastic! I also think the Love Me With Lies series by Tarryn Fisher needs SO much more attention than it gets – fantastic!

11. Which book boy or girl would be your book BFF?

BFF? Hmm… it’s a toss up between Caymen from The Distance Between Us, Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables and Celaena from Throne of Glass!

12. Apart from reading, what are your other hobbies or interests?

Yoga is definitely one of my main hobbies other than books & reading. I also really love to crochet and knit and have really been focusing on that a lot recently, as I would like to be able to open an Etsy shop in the future. I also love binge watching tv shows, and I enjoy video games as well, but that comes in spurts!

13. Apart from book shopping, what else do you like shopping for?

I actually do not like shopping, for the most part. Or at least for things that a lot of people like (clothes, etc…). If I am shopping outside of the bookstore, I love Ikea, Cosco and shopping for Yarn! Not too exciting, I know 😛

14. At a party, the DJ suddenly changes the song – and it’s your song. What song would be playing?

I have a really broad taste in music, and my favorite songs are constantly changing. Right now, if I’m listening to music, it’s Sam Smith, John Newman or Florence + the Machine! I’m not listening to a lot lately though because I’ve been turning to audiobooks recently in times I would normally listen to music!

15. Pick out either a book you want turned into a film/TV show or a film/TV show you want turned into a book.

Oh my gosh, I would love for the Throne of Glass series to be turned into a TV show! I think it would be fantastic and it would probably be one of the only shows I would tune in love to see!

Are you participating in the Love-a-Thon?! Please link up your introduction post 🙂

    • Thank you 🙂 OMG, me too… I love the cover for Six of Crows! I am actually obsessed with Crows & Ravens (I even have a tattoo of a raven feather!) so when I seen the cover I was practically screaming!!

  1. I think Throne of Glass would make a fantastic TV series! All of the character crafting, the twisting plot and just the intensity of feels would ensure that we’d be hooked (if it was written as a screenplay the right way). Great idea! And also, I love that you love yoga. I’ve always felt like I wanted to try it out, but feel too nervous to do so. Do you go to classes or just practice at home?

Thanks for participating in this year’s Love-a-Thon!

    • Oh the feels for ToG if it was a TV show! I agree, the screenplay would have to be written in the right way!

You should definitely try Yoga Alexa! I go to both classes (which I haven’t in awhile though) and practice at home. They both have benefits, but I find at I’m less self conscious and will try out things I wouldn’t in the class. Now I feel so much more confident in classes because of practicing so much at home. If you are interested in getting started I suggest checking out doyouyoga.com ; they offer free classes and programs every so often (and all the old ones are on there!) and they are great to get started. One of the instructors, Erin Motz, is just amazing. She breaks down everything really well and it’s because of her that I think I became much better! Yoga’s definitely rewarding, even though I was previously a naysayer 😛 If you try it out definitely let me know, and we will have some yogi chat !!!!!

Thanks for hosting again this year Alexa <3

    • The new Sophie Kinsella book is YA also, which makes me SOOO much more excited for it! I love her adult books so I can’t wait to read her debut YA 🙂

I’m so excited that you are enjoying Yoga! I am a very, very, anxious person and continued yoga has really helped that 🙂 I hope you see even more of the calming effect Inge!

    • I’m just going to be starting Heir of Fire today 🙂 I’m so excited to delve even deeper, I’m obsessed!

Knitting is so much fun! I actually think crocheting is easier now that I’ve gotten the hang of it so I’ve been doing more of that lately because of quicker results. Youtube is definitely a helpful tool when your learning how to knit because you can watch tutorials and see exactly where everything is supposed to go 🙂

    • YESSSS!!! <3 I know – 2015 is the year of amazing books!! (Although I think I say that every year haha). I am so happy I finally fell in love with fantasy – I was missing out on so much awesomeness 🙂

    • Thanks 🙂 I agree, it’s such hard work – I’m never any good at those types of things!!!

I haven’t finished The Grisha trilogy yet either but I plan to before Six of Crows comes out !!!

  2. Ooo yes to Caymen and Celaena! Caymen is so witty and sarcastic and Celaena is just fab ;D

    *hi-fives* I don’t like shopping either.

Yay for Florence + the Machine! I’m so excited for the new album, I can’t believe it’s been a while since Ceremonials came out although I hope it’s more along the lines of Lungs.

    • Caymen is soooo sarcastic, I love it.

YES! I love that you don’t like shopping either, I always feel like the oddball because it seems like everyone loves shopping but it’s always so stressful 😛

      I agree, I lovvvveeeeed Lungs! I can’t wait, i need more 🙂

    • YES! I couldn’t actually think of any off the top of my head so I pulled up Goodreads and couldn’t believe that it wasn’t instantaneous in my head, so excited for it!

  3. I am in awe of anyone who can crochet and knit. Every time I try I end up with my fingers tied up in the yarn! Can’t wait to see what kind of goodies you have when you get your etsy shop open! 🙂

    • Believe me Ella, it took a long time for me to get crocheting! I could knit since I was little so I hadn’t really thought about how difficult it was, but only tried crocheting in the past few months. I went weeks trying to get the hang of it! I can totally understand how you can get your fingers tied up!

  4. I love your answers! And I love your blog. 😀
Celaena would be an awesome BFF, I also have her as one of my picks. I LOVE Throne of Glass, so I would LOVE to also see it on the screen. (A TV show would be amazing!)
I’m not a big shopper either. (I don’t like clothes shopping unless it is for kids.) Love your list of books for this year, I am looking forward to those too!

    • Thanks Stephanie 🙂

There is so much love for Celaena and Throne of Glass today from EVERYBODY! So happy I am reading this series now so I can understand!!!

    • YAY!!! A fellow knitter/hooker 🙂 I’m not knitting anything right now but I am currently crocheting an earwarmer for my bosses young one and a Kindle sleeve!!

Baby projects are so much fun! There are so many adorable things for children! A QUILT! That’s amazing, I think I am going to attempt a quilt in the summer when I won’t be as in need of hats/scarves/legwarmers and the like, and it will be ready for the fall!!!

    • Thanks Lauren, you too <3

YESS! The sarcasm is what made me fall in love with Caymen, we just have the same humor and I think we would get along swimmingly lol.

    • Thanks Patricia!

Of course, when I had to fill this out I really struggled with thinking of individual song picks but now that’s already posted I keep thinking of other random songs like I am loving right now haha

  5. Your music taste is excellent! I just had to make that the first thing I commented on because I read your answer to that question & I get almost as excited about music as I do books. Throne of Glass would make an excellent TV show, agreed.

    • Thanks Stormy! I have a really broad taste in music, because I just like all the music (kind of like I like ALL THE BOOKs haha) so I am open to listening to just about anything (besides rap… not really my thing). I just realized that embarassingly I also forgot to say OneRepublic! I can’t believe I forgot to list them because I listen to their Native album everyday on the way to work, duh haha. Now I have to pop over to your blog and stalk your music loves too 🙂

    • EEK! And I just seen on your January Wrap Up that Wake Me Up is one of your favorite songs, MINE TOO! Avicii’s songs just pierce my soul <3 Do you have spotify? I’d love to add you if you have a public profile!!!

    • OMGGGGG! I need to go read your review of The Young Elites now… if you are excited for The Rose Society that means you LOVED IT OMG OMG ! haha.. **scurries off**. YAY 🙂 I will tell you when I open it then, but I need to get so much better first… and come up with more ideas haha.

Bahaha, I’m kind of in the same boat with ToG! P.S. I finished CoM finally… and now I’m onto Heir of Fire 🙂

    • Thank you so much Klaudia 🙂 Are you liking ToG so far? It was a recent read for me as well (late 2014) but I’m so happy that I started it!!

    • I totally agree! I would love to see the world that I have imagined so much in my head portrayed on screen… but as long as they stayed faithful to the book!

    • THE COVER! I know… gosh, when it was released I was almost at a hand flapping stage haha. It will be displayed front ways on my bookshelf when it finally comes out, that’s for sure 🙂

I KNOW! I want to rewatch the movies also! I started reading the first book last week and I was instantly craving the movie. They were at Cosco a couple of months and I am seriously kicking myself for not picking them up then, such a mistake! Have you ever watched the “tie in” Road to Avonlea? It takes place after Anne, but it’s set in Avonlea as well and alot of the beloved characters are in there!

  6. Hi, Lauren! 😀

I love your blog name! 😀 Kudos to your sister for coming up with it, haha.

I’M SO EXCITED FOR SIX OF CROWS TOO. And I really ought to read some Kasie West! I’m taking part in Contemporary Conversations in March though so I’m planning to read some Kasie West then! I already own two of her books, I just need to get round to them, haha.

I love Ikea too! It’s such a fun place. 😀 And I don’t knit or anything (oh gosh I tried knitting once when I was little because I had to for school, but it turned out SO TERRIBLY I’ve been too afraid to try since) but I love looking at yarn anyway, it’s pretty and I love seeing all the different colours and I just love the textures of yarn! It always looks so nice and soft.

    • Thanks Cynthia 🙂

Gosh, I know, thank God for my sister… otherwise I would still probably be in a blog name limbo or using “Lauren reads books” or something haha.

I definitely recommend reading Kasie for Contemporary Conversations!! I actually intend on rereading The Distance Between Us because it’s so fab 🙂

Ikea is SO MUCH FUN right?! I only went to it a few months ago for the first time, because the province that I’m from doesn’t have an Ikea and I was in furniture heaven. I’m a builder by nature I think so I loved putting all the furniture together, I actually didn’t WANT my boyfriend to help me haha.

I agree, knitting can be quite hard. Crocheting is actually fairly easy though so if you are interested, I suggest giving that a whirl! YES, you get it about the yarn! I could just oogle and drool over it and touch. Love it. haha.

    • It’s a wonderful community, and if I ever had any doubts, it’s always renewed during the love-a-thon! Today gives me the warm fuzzies haha. Happy Love A Thon to you too <3

  7. Hello Lauren! Pleasure to meet you! 🙂

I love your blog name. I think it’s probably true of many of book bloggers. I’ve often sat down to read a chapter or two, only to look up and realize hours have passed and I’m near the end of the book. It’s kind of marvelous.

There are a copy of your top 5 books that I don’t know about. I’ll have to check them out. But yes to so many of them, like ACOTAR. <3 Good choices!

Ohhh, this is the second time I’ve seen the Love Me With Lies. I really need to see what they’re all about. 😀 Thanks for the recommendations.

  8. Celaena would be an awesome best friend. Not sure if I’m badass enough for her though! Great musical choices too.
    Am loving the #Loveathon!

  9. OH MY GOD! I’m from Ontario too! I live in ‘Sauga but I tell everyone I’m from Toronto because no one knows where Sauga is lol.

YAY we have the same BFF… sort of? I LOVE Caymen! I’m also interested in The Fill In Boyfriend and Six of Crows. I love how different those two genres are and yet I’ve got so much SQUEALING going for them!

  10. Lauren! I was the WORST at the Loveathon. I was running around all weekend and participated in nothing and didn’t reply to our comments. #loveathonfail BUT, I attribute that in part to this year’s intro post not being nearly as fun as last year’s interview swap! So, I was totally thinking of you! Hugs!

  11. WOAH How did I not know Sophie Kinsella has a new book coming out?? I’ve been waiting for this moment for ages!! I’m also super excited for The Fill In Boyfriend as well. Kasie West is queen of the contemporary novel.

And Anne Shirley <3 The Anne series will always hold a spot in my heart for being the first book to ever show me the wonders of reading. I went on this huge Anne kick in fourth and fifth grade, trying to be as imaginative and witty as she was so after all her influence, I feel like it's a no brainer for me to want her to be my BFF.
