2016 Reading Challenges

Posted January 18, 2016 by Lauren in reading challenges / 6 Comments

Yippee! It’s that time again 🙂 As I say every year, I love reading challenges. Last year I was not great at all with completing mine, but that doesn’t deter me at all from signing up again this year and trying again! I have been looking over all the challenges available the last couple of weeks and have finally narrowed it down to what I think are feasible but will still be fun and a bit of a challenge!!

2016 TBR Pile Reading Challenge
*Hosted by Bookish Lifestyle*

Goal: 40 (Sweet Summer Fling)

Year after year, this is the challenge that I want to complete the most, and year after year, it’s the one I usually end up doing the worst 😛 This year, because one of my goals is to not focus on ARC’s this year as much as previous years, I am really hoping to get this finally completed! My goal is quite large at 40, but considering the amount of books I have in my TBR and that my overall book goal for 2016 is 100 books, I am sure this is the year I will do it!!! Wheee!!

ReRead2016
*Hosted by Belle of the Literati*

Goal: 10

I wanted so badly to do well with this challenge last year because I LOVE re-reading, but with my sucky reading year, I completely failed. This year I hope to get back into re-reading and I think 10 is a completely doable number. I’d love to re-read Fangirl, and the Throne of Glass series but who knows what else! I’m going to kind of just go with my gut on this one and whatever I want to grab at the time, I’m going to!

Flights of Fantasy
*Hosted by Alexa Loves Books & Hello, Chelly*

Goal: 20

If there is one thing that I have learned over the past couple of years, it is that I love, LOVE fantasy! It surprised me so much that I fell in love with the one genre I had sworn off but now I am by far, addicted. I guess I did read some fantasy, but more along the paranormal or urban fantasy trend… high fantasy? No way. I did ok actually with my goals last year but still didn’t succeed but looking over my reading list for this year, I think 20 books will be within my read – but still a bit of a challenge. I’m so excited to participate in FoF again this year, and to REALLY participate 🙂

Retelling Challenge
*Hosted by The Daily Prophecy*

Goal: 6 (Goose Girl)

I am excited to read some fairy tales this year! I signed up last year and did have a lot of fun while I was reading. I have a few books lined up (Fairest & Winter of course!) and I hope to discover a few new ones!!

2015 Prequel & Sequel Challenge
*Hosted by Novel Heartbeat & Writer Grrl Reads*

Goal: 76-100 points (Professional)

If I had of kept track of this challenge appropriately enough last year, I probably came darn close to finishing so I’m sure I can complete this year also! I have a lot of series books to read so this one is so achievable for me!

Must Read in 2016
*Hosted by Bookmark Lit*

Goal: 10 books

I love this idea, so I couldn’t resist signing up when I seen Lauren’s post about it! My Top Ten Tuesday post last week is essentially the books I would love to get read so I’m setting my goal at 10! I might update in a few weeks here with some more books but right now that’s my list thus far.

Phew, and that’s it! It’s a lot of challenges again but… I LOVE CHALLENGES haha. Whether I succeed or not, I’m sure I will have a ton of fun participating! I will also be updating each individual challenge page throughout the year (they are located in the menu bar) if you are interested in peeking at my progress.

What challenges are you participating in this year?!

  1. I didn’t realize Flights of Fantasy was back this year! That’s the only challenge that I accomplished last year, mainly because I just said I’d read some fantasy, but didn’t set a specific number. I’m doing the TBR challenge this year but, as I alluded to earlier, my read-as-soon-as-I-buy challenge from last year prevented me from doing too well with this one. This year, I’m going to focus more on reading the books that I own, and not buying much at all. I have a list of new releases for the year that I will for sure be buying and reading right away, but otherwise I’m going to be keeping my book buying to a minimum and focusing on the dusty treasures on my shelves. My goal for the Prequel & Sequel Challenge is the same as yours =) Last year, I went for the top level, and failed, since I barely read at all in the last half of the year. This year, I have a few series that I know I’ll finish, which will add up the points fast without me having to stress about reading too many books. Good luck with all your challenges — this seems like a much smaller number than previous years (I think?) and I’m totally confident that you’ll rock them all!

  2. I’m also doing a TBR pile challenge (Rock my TBR), because I definitely want to focus on reading books I already own. I’m also in Flights of fantasy, because it’s the best genre, and I’m doing my own. Good luck and happy reading 😀

  3. YAY! I’m so happy to hear you’re joining us again for Flights of Fantasy! It’s always so fun to be reading fantasy books (since it’s the genre I love the most, but not necessarily the one I read the most), and I definitely love chatting with others about it too. Hope you’ll join us for some book club reading too!
