2017 Reading Challenges

*peeks in*… Well hello there! I have emerged from the shadows! It’s been a long 2016, and I’ve barely been around but I’m back with a renewed blogging and reading spirit for 2017.  On that thought, I figured the perfect way to hop back into the swing of things is to talk about the challenges I want to participate in this year!

I’ve considerably whittled down the number of challenges I’m participating in this year. Last year I read hardly anything compared to what I normally do so let’s just say everything was a massive fail in the challenge front last year. I’m not going to overestimate myself this year, but I do want to challenge myself so I’ve decided on three that I think really fit into my reading goals for this year.

I’m also participating in the Goodreads challenge, as per usual, and I’m hoping to read 60 books. I’m also hoping to reread at least 5 books because that’s something that’s very important to me, to revisit my previous favorite.

Flights of Fantasy
*Hosted by Alexa Loves Books & Hello, Chelly*

Goal: 20

I am completely confident that I will achieve my goal of 20 fantasy books, despite not completing it last year. Fantasy is definitely what I gravitate towards now when picking out a book or adding to my TBR so I don’t see any reason why I can’t finish 20 books! I’ve participated in this challenge since Alexa & Rachel started it but I have yet to reach my goal… 2017 will be that year! (or so I hope :P)

2017 New Release Challenge
*Hosted by (un)Conventional Bookviews & Books, Movies, Reviews! Oh My!*

Goal: 15

Since my main goal this year is to focus on my TBR pile, I’m definitely planning on taking a large step back from new releases and review copies. That being said, I don’t want to completely forget about them and I think 15 new releases is a reasonable goal. Who knows, I could completely blow past that number but right now it seems like an actual challenge for me because nearly everything that is grabbing my attention is from my backlist!

Beat the Backlist
*Hosted by NovelKnight*

Goal: 40

My most important goal to me this year is to read a decent portion of my backlist. My TBR that I own right now is completely out of control, and the rate I continue to add books to my TBR backlist is award worthy. Since I’ve started blogging it seems I’ve largely focused on the newest releases but last year when I wasn’t reading hardly anything at all I realized that this is just silly… I own so many books, why am I neglecting them? And there are so many books I want to read from author’s backlists but always shove them aside for new releases. So 2017 is the year that I will really be focusing on both of those goals. I don’t plan on buying many books in 2017 (that’s a different upcoming post) so this is the perfect time to focus on it.

I’m planning on dividing my backlist into two categories; the first one being my TBR that I own/ARC’s I have and the second being backlist books that are on my TBR that I don’t own but really want to read.

I also am going to be participating in the Hogwarts House Cup Mini Challenge within the Beat the Backlist challenge as well… for Ravenclaw of course 😉

And there we have it… better late than never right?

What challenges are you participating in this year? Any of the same ones?

  1. Good luck with your challenges. I think the backlist reading challenge is great and I’m really focusing on that this year. I have two top ten tuesday lists of books that are my main goal to read this year.
