Review: Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I love Megan Miranda’s books, I am very rarely disappointed and Daughter of Mine is no exception.

The way Daughter of Mine reads is so interesting. It’s almost a slow burn of a thriller, where little nuggets of information for the plot are dropped and it gets more and more foreboding. It’s not super fast paced but it was impossible for me to put down. You have almost zero idea who to trust, and even though I definitely had suspicions… I didn’t really know what was going on.

As I was reading this, I honestly thought it would be a 5 star read. My one disappointment was the epilogue. I would have liked a bit more. There were a few plot points that were opened that were either not talked about as much as I would have liked or just not circled back to. Other than that, this was phenomenal, one of my favourites of hers for sure.

What’s a favorite series that you don’t feature a lot on your Bookstagram?

Mine is definitely ACOTAR. I love this series soooo much. I’ve read it many times and every time I think I love it a bit more. I’m going to do another reread this year because it’s already been too long 🖤

(Also I cannot express enough dismay at the fact that ACOSF does not match my original hardcovers).

What a Saturday!

Today @readingslumpqueen and I went to a market, had a great lunch and our final stop was @owlsnestbooks ! It’s one of my favorite indie bookstores here in Calgary and I had a gift card that was burning a hole in my pocket that I had won in a giveaway from @awaywithwordsbookclub .

I knew exactly what I was looking for The Familiar by Leigh Bardugo, one of my most anticipated books of the year. And bonus, I got this awesome wooden bookmark with purchase!

I can’t wait to dive into The Familiar, and if you’re in Calgary stop in at Owls Nest - they have the cutest store and friendliest staff!

I’ve been very restrictive of the new books I’m buying lately, other than my Fairyloot but sometimes I just have to take the plunge!

Books:
•A Fate Inked in Blood by Danielle Jensen - I had to get this book before the first printing metallic edges were gone. I am who I am.
•The Crimson Moth by Kristen Ciccarelli - The edition from @fairyloot is so stunning. I’m so happy I own it.
•The Jasad Heir by Sara Hashem - I actually don’t know what this is about but I’ve been obsessed with wanting to read it 😂

Review: Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez ⭐️

Review: Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I felt like I was the last person alive to pick up an Abby Jimenez novel. When I saw that this was the fake dating trope and the consistent raves I have heard about Jimenez’s books, I knew I had to pick it up.

I enjoyed this SO much. I was so surprised by the mixture of writing in this romance novel. It’s definitely a pretty big departure from a lot of books, especially recently. It’s funny at times, extremely heartfelt, tackles mental illness in a good way, tough topics, tough relationships. I got the feeling finishing Just for the Summer that she could write anything with grace.

I loved all of the characters, but Justin’s brother and sisters got me hard. I loved the amazing friendships portrayed in this, for both of the main characters. I rooted for Justin and Emma the entire time.

Now the downside. There were times where I felt like I missing out on an inside joke... there were a few scenes that I felt like were put in as easter eggs (which I had heard Abby Jimenez did), and that it was obvious. And I was correct... I found out this was in the same world as Part of Your World and Yours Truly, which is disappointing. It’s marketed as a standalone, which is fair but I would have liked to know that this was in the same world - Goodreads gave no indication this was the third book in a standalone series. And now I know how the first book ends.

I definitely understand the Abby Jimenez hype. And now I follow her on social media and I’m a little bit obsessed. I cannot wait to read every book she puts out. I highly recommend, but please read Part of Your World and Yours Truly first if you plan to at all (unless you don’t care about spoilers).

Happy Monday everyone! What does everyone have on the docket this week?

I have not much going on this week, which I’m thrilled about!

READING
I am doing the 1000 pages challenges, and have a TBR of so many books. Then I deviated (as usual) and realized I have an ARC of this gem. So I’m reading everything I posted on Saturday plus this and who knows what haha.

LISTENING
I’m listening to The American Roommate Experiment and really enjoying it. I also have The Discovery of Witches and Fangirl ready to go for rereads plus The Wrong Family by Tarryn Fisher. I’m desperately seeking some rereads of favorites so I’ve been putting them on hold for audiobook rereads.

WATCHING
I am rewatching The Vampire Diaries and am loving it. It’s one of my favorite shows but I have never rewatched it, my heart couldn’t take it. BUT I want to watch The Originals since I never did and catch up on what I missed from Legacies so I figured a rewatch was in order.

Review: Credence by Penelope Douglas
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I knew this was either a love it or hate it type of book. I also had a suspicion that I wouldn’t be super thrilled by it due to some of the taboo content as I knew what it entailed. Despite all that I still needed to read it … and I didn’t hate it 😂

I don’t really know what to say about Credence, I enjoyed it a lot but there were also parts I was like ugh, no. The FMC Tiernan was impossible and she certainly wasn’t my favorite character. I also had a hard time with some of the relationships in the book. I’m try to skirt around to avoid spoilers but let’s just say the ultimate way it ended I was pleased with.

It did have two tropes I loved… stranded/stuck together plus she’s mine/touch her and die.

If you are interested in this one, give it a whirl. It’s not super taboo… just kind of hovers around the edges LOL. I can absolutely see how people don’t love this though!
