Summary
Welcome to the Point

There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.

Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.

Bax terrifies her, but it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize that some boys are just better when they’re bad.

 My Thoughts & Review
I was really excited to see that Jay Crownover had a new series; I have really enjoyed the two books I’ve read in the Marked Men series so I was interested to read a new series with even badder boys!

Bax is the main character, and I was excited to meet this new, sexy bad boy… but he didn’t thrill me unfortunately. I think he was just TOO bad for my tastes. I found him much too gruff, and even when he was at his nice points with Dovie, I just didn’t get it. The whole criminal aspect I think is what really made him unappealing to me honestly. I didn’t dislike him by any means, and by the end of the book I liked how his story wrapped up but usually I am head over heels for the main guy in New Adult and it just didn’t happen here. The same thing with Dovie, I liked her overall, and there was nothing that made me dislike her… I mean she was a great person, stood by Bax’s side, and had great qualities but I didn’t find anything to make me attached to these characters. I think that aspect really played into my overall thoughts of the book, the characters didn’t wow me so I found it harder to care about their outcomes.

The story was interesting after it really cut to the chase. It had a different plot than most New Adult, so that was a refreshing change. I didn’t feel like I was essentially reading the same story with different characters, but ultimately I still knew what was going to happen.

Overall, it was a good read but not stunning. The plot was interesting and different but the characters didn’t blow me away so that left a huge whole for me. I will probably read the second book, for pure curiosity to see where the secondary characters stories take them but if I had to choose I’d definitely pick the Marked Men series over this one.

3 Stars

  1. I still haven’t read any NA, but I do occasionally check out reviews for NA books so if I do decide to take the plunge into it I know where to start. I guess I won’t be starting with this one! While I definitely think it’s good the plot was different than the others you’ve been reading, I personally feel like characters are make or break for a book. So if I can’t connect with a character then I generally dislike the book. But hey, I hope if you do end up reading the next one I hope you like it! 🙂

    • I agree, characters are more often than not a make it or break it. It was just SO hard to care what happened because I didn’t feel much for the characters. New Adult is a hard genre to take a dive into I’d say… there are so many books to choose from, and honestly, sometimes the plots all sound the same!! Colleen Hoover would be my recommendation if any 😉 NO WAIT, The Opportunist by Tarryn Fisher. Sooo much different than anything I’ve read, it’s like an obsessive love story filled with lots of craziness… very good lol.
