Top Ten Tuesday

This topic was terribly hard for me honestly! There is two sides of this coin for me… one is that while I haven’t read a lot of authors most popular books/series, I have read one of the lesser known (or hyped!) books and the other is that I have not read A LOT of authors… like a lot. I didn’t pick ten this time though… I chose six. While there are a lot of authors that I want to read, that are very popular these six stick out in my mind for some reason!

Gena Showalter
I need to start these two series. Betty has said amazing things about both of them and I’m almost positive I haven’t disliked a book she has recommended yet!

Sarah Dessen
My sister bought me a Sarah Dessen book last year for my birthday and I still haven’t read it, she loves her and is incredibly picky with books so I’m almost guaranteed to enjoy these!

Rick Riordan
I honestly have zero explanation why I haven’t even read at least the Percy Jackson books … zero reason. But I need to!

John Green
I’m really just torn on whether I will ever read a John Green book. On one hand I want to see what all the hype is all about but the cancer thing.. yah… not really interested :S

Melissa de la Cruz
I have no reason for at least not reading the The Beauchamp family series… I have witches and I own two of the books :S

Tahereh Mafi
I feel like I should hide when I write this :S I have Shatter Me and I had planned on starting it a lot sooner than now, but then I finally decided to wait until the entire series was out… now I have no excuse 😛

What are your picks this week? Are there any authors that you think I need to read their books? Link up!

  1. Oh my goodness – you are missing out with John Green! I am not really into contemporary as much as other genres and I really didn’t think I would like TFIOS, but it was one of the most amazing books I’ve ever read. Gena Showalter was on my list too. I really want to read the White Rabbit Chronicles. I love Tahereh Mafi and Rick Riordan – both incredible authors!

    • I think I will eventually read TFIOS but I am terrified honestly. Just… terrified 😛 I really want to read the White Rabbit Chronicles as well! I think I might put it off until the third book comes out though because if I waited this long… 😛

  2. Sarah Dessen is by far one of my favourite authors; she’s pretty much all I read back in my preteen/early teen days. Now I don’t enjoy her books quite as much (I’m 21), but I do love to go back to them as a little walk down memory lane. They’re now very much a “comfort food” book to me and I do continue to always read her new releases!

If I were to recommend favourites, I very much love The Truth About Forever, Along for the Ride, and This Lullaby.

    • My sister loves The Truth About Forever as well so that will be added to my list 🙂 I almost didn’t even want to share that I haven’t read Sarah Dessen because she feels like the one of those must read authors that I should have read years ago 😛

    • It’s sadly true. On the plus side, when I have children I hope to read Percy to them so if I haven’t read it by then at least I will 😀 😀

    • I have heard so much love for Tahereh Mafi! Especially as of late with her final book out 🙂 I can’t wait to dive into her series, I love lyrical writing and that is apparently what she is famous for?!

  3. I just read Tahereh Mafi last week. Now i need to finish the series. I haven’t read John Green either. I’ll probably read The Fault in Our Stars before the movie comes out. I love Melissa de la Cruz, and Gena Showalter. The White Rabbit Chronicles is a favorite of mine.

    • Glad to know I am not the only one to be late to Tahereh Mafi reading 🙂 I KNOW I will love Gena Showalter… I just need to stop eyeing up other books and get a move on!

    • I am definitely going to 🙂 I have no idea why I keep putting it off! Plus I slowly want to collect these amazing series so what better excuse them to need to read them 😀 😀

    • I love seeing picks like mine on other’s lists, especially if I am feeling alone in not reading them 😛 I need to get to them soon as well but I just need to find time to sit down and bulk read them!

    • I love binge reading 🙂 While I hate feeling like the only one who hasn’t read something, I enjoy sitting down and bulk reading a whole series! So many people have commented saying I NEED to read Percy Jackson the most I think it might be up sooner than I think !!!

  4. John Green and Gena Showalter made my list as well! I also should have included Sarah Dessen and Rick Riordan. So many great authors I need to read. *sigh*

Also, YOU HAVEN’T READ SHATTER ME YET???? Get on it right now!! I LOVE Tahereh Mafi’s writing so much. It’s a little intense at first, but oh my gosh it’s so beautiful.

P.S. Sorry for yelling in all caps. 🙂

    • HAHA you think I mind if you yell in caps?! I think i spend half of my writing yelling in Caps lol 🙂 It helps to prove a good point!!!

I knowwww… I haven’t read Shatter Me yet, it’s a shame! BUT on the plus side now I can bulk read the series 😀

  5. John Green writes great books with fantastic characters. Even if you’re not into the cancer thing, I’d HIGHLY recommend either Looking for Alaska or Paper Towns. Paper Towns is probably my favourite of his books.

I’m with you on Gena Showalter — I want to check the zombie series out, just based on Betty’s love of her books!

And Sarah Dessen? Please promise me that you’ll read one of her books this summer. Sarah Dessen just epitomizes the PERFECT summer read!

    • Maybe I shall try out Paper Towns then 🙂 I WILL read Sarah Dessen! My sister bought my Just Listen for me to read last year for my birthday and it’s still freaking sitting on my shelf. So sad!

  6. A lot of people with this Top Ten Tuesday are saying they have never read a Dessen book. How on Earth is this possible?! I love Dessen and have read almost all of her books and own all except for one. I think everyone let contemporary die when vamps were cool so many haven’t tried her awesome stories. I would read The Truth About Forever or Just Listen those two were my favs.

Also you need to start Shatter Me. I really didn’t like the first book but the second and third books are downright awesome and some of my favorites.

    • *hides* I know, I know!!! I kind of skipped over YA though when I was younger. I did read Fear Street and some others that were popular when I was a teen but I read a lot of romance and adult books so I was exposed to the genre as much. I even read Twilight years later and only because my sister was reading it. I did read The It Girl series though and liked that 😛 I can’t wait to read one of her books this summer, especially after the amazing things that people have said for this post!!

I heard the first book was not as wonderful as the second and third but I will stick through it! It will definitely be a 2014 read for sure 🙂
