Hiya!!! I’m so excited that it’s time for the Love-a-thon again 🙂 I’ve participated the last three years so I was thrilled to see it was going to be happening again this year! It’s the long weekend here in Ontario so I have loads of time available to participate with the exception of sometime Saturday night (haha, NBA All Stars weekend!!). I’m so excited to meet and connect with all the book lovers this weekend 🙂
The Love-a-thon kicks off with this questionnaire so we can get to know each other a bit better…
What’s your name? Where in the world are you blogging from?
I’m Lauren 🙂 I’m currently living in Ontario, Canada (near, but in Toronto). I’m originally from Nova Scotia though <3
Tell us your history with reading. Were you always a reader? Were you a reluctant reader? Was there a book that convinced you to become a reader?
I was always a reader from the earliest that I can remember and apparently even before that! My parents have pictures of me in my crib surrounded by books! (I used to take them into my bed because my sister would chew on the corners when she was a baby haha. Clearly, the physical appearance of my books was already a big deal at that point in my life). I was never a reluctant reader, if anything, my parents had a hard time getting me outside because I was much more content in the summers to curl up and read the days away. I don’t think there was one book that convinced me to read, I just remember always, always loving books.
How did you get involved in the online book community?
It was shortly after reading The Hunger Games & Divergent in 2012, and I was searching online for books that were similar and stumbled upon book blogs and Goodreads. I was immediately sucked in. NEEDED to start my own book blog… the rest is history 😛
How did you choose your primary platform (blog, Instagram, YouTube, etc)? How did you come up with your blog name?
When I discovered book blogging, I hadn’t yet discovered YouTube. Well no, I lived on YouTube (hah!) but I didn’t know people had book channels at that time. I’m not even sure if Instagram was a thing yet? (If it was I didn’t even know it existed). So book blogging it was 🙂 My sister came up with my blog name, thankfully, as I was running around in circles not coming up with anything! It suits me so well with my ‘ability’ to get lost in books for hours and hours.
What’s your favorite thing about the online book community?
Definitely meeting people with the shared loved of books! I hardly knew anyone that loved books as much as me, and I was itching to have someone to discuss my latest reads with!
What sort of posts can readers expect from you?
I’ve been kind of MIA the past year, but 2017 is my year of getting back into blogging! I post hauls, reviews, discussions, Top Ten Tuesday… it’s a mixed bag!
What book genres do you talk about most?
A variety! Fantasy and paranormal are definitely my favorite but I love thrillers, contemporary… yah, I’ll read mostly anything so except a wide variety. I used to read mostly Young Adult but recently I’m getting back into adult fiction.
Favorite food? Beverage?
This is nearly as hard to ask me to choose as a favorite book. I LOVE food, and will try anything at least once. If I had to choose an ultimate favorite I would definitely say crab and scallops (I’m from Nova Scotia, it’s practicely a requirement :P).
Favorite color?
I love grey and purple.
Favorite things to do apart from reading?
I love crocheting and knitting, that’s probably my second biggest hobby. I also love DIY and crafting. I LOVE yoga, and enjoy running as well. I also spend a lot of time watching TV and sports. I’m a stay-at-home kind of girl so my hobbies really reflect that.
Favorite tv shows?
Wow, and I thought the food question was hard 😛 I have a lot of favorites, current and old shows. My all time favorites are Beverly Hills 90210, Gilmore Girls, Parenthood, Big Brother and Sons of Anarchy. I also love The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars (well, I have a love/hate relationship with that show honestly), Nashville, The Challenge, Teen Mom, Wynonna Earp… I could go on and on. I like TV a lot. I also watch a ton of sports… basketball(NBA & NCAA), baseball, UFC…
Favorite movies?
As much as I love TV, movies aren’t my favorite. I love the Harry Potter movies, Brave, Beauty and the Beast, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them but I could take or leave most movies (except Disney, I do LOVE Disney). I like a lot of romatic comedies as well but movies are always my second option for watching.
Favorite musical artists?
I listen to a very wide variety of music but country is my all time favorite. Gosh, favorites? Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Tim McGraw, Alan Jackson, Florence and the Machine, Of Monsters and Men… so many. These questions are hard haha.
Favorite places to shop?
Shopping is probably one of my least favorite things to do, maybe ever. I like shopping in the book store of course, and Michaels but generally I don’t enjoy it. I always start out pretty excited for some stores, like Ikea but by the end I’m drained and cranky. I like grocery shopping and Costco though 😛
Favorite childhood books?
Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, Harry Potter (although I was more teenager at that point) and Little House on the Prairie.
Favorite books read in the last five years?
Throne of Glass, A Court of Throne of Roses, The Black Dagger Brotherhood series, A Discovery of Witches, all Kasie West books, and still Harry Potter 🙂
Favorite genres?
Definitely fantasy, hands down. I also LOVE thrillers the second best though!
Underrated book, series or author you love?
I’m never too good at answering this, honestly. The past few years I’ve read a lot of hyped books!
A book you want to see made into a film or tv show?
Well, Throne of Glass I suppose (is this happening? I though I heard that it might be, or is?). I’m always scared of this though because I imagine things a certain way in my head and can be pretty sad and disappointed when my expectations aren’t met.
Book boyfriend/girlfriend? Book BFF? Book family?
Too many book boyfriends. I fall easily for book boys 🙂 My Book BFF would probably be Celaena because I love her. And Caymen from The Distance Between Us… oh and Luna Lovegood! Book Family is absolutely The Weasley’s.
Books you want to read in 2017?
I’m so behind on books so this is going to be a big catch up year. I want to reread Harry Potter this year for sure. I also want to get caught up in the Throne of Glass series and read a A Court of Mist and Fury. Also finish The Black Dagger Brotherhood!
Phew! I’m done. I hope that helped you get to know me better, and feel free to ask any other questions that you have 🙂 Did you fill out the questionnaire as well?
HAPPY LOVE-A-THON!!!!
Haha, I already see you in your crib surrounding by all your precious books. That must be such a fun photograph! I’ve also always loved books.
Grey and purple *high five*
DISNEY. ALL THE DISNEY.
Fantasy has been and always will be my favorite genre [together with fairytales]
Yay for 2017 being the year you get back into blogging! Also, you most definitely must catch up on all the Sarah J. Maas and BDB – so much good reading ahead of you. I’m really glad that you are joining us for the Love-a-Thon again this year <3
Nice introduction! I’m going to reread the Goblet of Fire this year (slowly continuing my Harry Potter marathon from last year). I’m obsessed with Pretty Little Liars, but I see how people can love/hate the show.
The need for more books like the THG is a understandable way to find yourself in the book community. I loved Little Women too. I think I’m due for a reread. Reading Anne of Green Gables is one of my goals for the year!
I love the look of your blog! It’s so pretty! Purple and grey make such an aesthetically pleasing combo 🙂 I’m totally on the same page about Pretty Little Liars! Part of me loves it and part of me is THRILLED that this is the last season and I’ll finally be free of the ridiculousness!
Hi Lauren! I really enjoyed reading your survey answers! I really enjoy running too (most people look at me like I’m crazy when I say that!) and I’m a big fan of grocery shopping and Costco too! (I’ve started to get more intentional with that I cook/eat this year). Good luck with getting back into blogging in 2017!
Ahhhh, it made me SO HAPPY when your post showed up in my feed. SO SO SO HAPPY. I’m getting back into yoga this year, and it’s been the best thing ever. So many of my coworkers are now obsessed too, and it’s been fun to encourage one and other, both on and off the mat =)
Hello! Have you ever been to any book events in Ontario? I’m about 4 hours from Toronto but have never gone to any events but am curious about them! I love that you have pictures of you surrounded by books! That’s so cute! I’ve been finding I’ve been leaning towards adult fiction rather than ya fiction as well, but YA fiction gets talked about so much that I still do enjoy reading some! And heyyyy another big brother fan! I don’t know many people who watch that!
I’m so happy to see that I’m not the only who’s not into movies. Lol. I prefer TV shows. Not into shopping either because crowds and shoppers especially can be so annoyingly inconsiderate. I also dislike shop assistants hovering all the time, which’d the norm where I live =/
You know what, I am totally like you with shopping too! I start to get really grumpy, especially if I’m not finding what I’m looking for. Must be why I online shop a lot! haha. I totally need to pick up black dagger brotherhood again! I loved the first three but somehow have been so busy I haven’t read more!
