January 2018 Book Haul

Posted February 3, 2018 by Lauren in Book Haul / 3 Comments

Hi! Happy February everyone 🙂 I really enjoy February as a whole so I’m pretty excited it’s here. I love Winter and usually, February feels just SO wintery to me. Also, Family Day falls in February so I get a long weekend as well as the NBA All-Stars weekend, oh! And the Superbowl! So many fun things this month. I have a pretty busy weekend so I’m pre-drafting this actually last weekend when your reading this. My cousin is visiting and also Nick and I have some Superbowl plans.

I’m pretty proud of the number of books that I hauled in January. I’m really, really trying to be more deliberate with the books I’m obtaining because I want to spend way less money on incoming books this year (for reasons that you will find out about later this year!) and I also sort of want to be on a book ban. I will obviously still by a few books here and there but I’m hoping to only purchase the ones that I plan on reading straight away. As you can see I’ve been using the library a lot more recently which I think is good because I’m reading books prior to purchasing them so when I DO purchase them I know I will love them. Plus it keeps me buying them immediately 🙂 Anyway, I count the first month a success so here’s to hoping for February as well!

Now, onto the books…

Little Monsters by Kara Thomas
One Perfect Lie by Lisa Scottoline
The Elite by Kiera Cass
The Queen by Kiera Cass

*Borrowed from the library

Surprisingly I have already read almost all of these books and I hope to have finished The Elite and Sugar Pine Trail by the time this posts. Genuine Fraud was one I REALLY wanted to read but I was holding off until it came into my library’s Overdrive because I really wasn’t sure how I would feel about it after my mixed feelings with We Were Liars. I really enjoyed it but it was SO messed up. I still have a hard time wrapping my brain around what my thoughts are, haha. Little Monsters was SO good, SO SO good. I don’t want to say too much about this one but it’s about a mystery, a murder, and toxic friendships. One Perfect Lie is one of the newest releases from one of my favorite authors and definitely did not disappoint. I’m not sure she will ever disappoint me, I’ve loved all of her books.

The Queen, The Prince and The Elite are the next books in The Selection series and I am SO ALL ABOUT THIS SERIES. It’s the perfect little addiction for me, and I’m really hoping the other books are available for borrow when I’m finished The Elite because I just want to binge it. I’ve read The Queen and The Prince and I liked how they added to the story but weren’t necessary to the series as a whole if you don’t want to read them.

I slacked off while reading Sugar Pine Trail and I didn’t get it finished by the time by borrow expired so I’m on the waitlist again. I won’t drag my feet so much the next time because I REALLY want to finish this one, I adore this series and I don’t even care that it’s Christmas themed (well.. I do keep my Christmas tree up through February :P).

Truly Devious 9 Days & 9 Nights The Wife Hidden Pieces A Thousand Beginnings and Endings
Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson
9 Days & 9 Nights by Katie Cotugno
The Wife by Alafair Burke
Hidden Pieces by Paula Stokes
A Thousand Beginnings and Endings Edited by Ellen Oh & Elsie Chapman
*From Harpercollins via Edelweiss

Oh my gosh. TRULY, DEVIOUS. I didn’t have any particular expectations for this books but it definitely surpassed what I expected it to be and I can’t believe I have to wait a full year now after that ending. If you like YA mystery/thriller’s this is a great one to pick up! The Wife was on my January TBR and as of writing this I haven’t finished it yet but… maybe I did haha.

When I saw that 9 Days & 9 Nights was available for download on Edelweiss, I nearly tore my computer right off my desk. ALL OF THE GRABBY HANDS. I LOVEDDDDDDD 99 Days and I cannot wait to read this sequel. I’ll read 99 Days before I read this one because it’s been so long (and finally review it!) and I just cannot wait, EHHH!

I had to download Hidden Pieces when I saw it as well because I adore Paula Stokes. And A Thousand Beginnings and Endings sounds fantastic. I love anthologies but I’m not always thrilled by them however I have high, high hopes for this one! I’ll probably pick this up well before the release date, honestly.

What books did you pick up in February? Did you read any of these books yet? Please leave a link to your haul below, I’d love to see what you picked up last month!

  1. I’m also aiming to spend less on books this year. I usually do pretty good with a goal like this at the beginning of the year. It’s usually when we get to the middle part and the end (when all those sales happen) that I don’t do so well. Wishing you lots of luck with this goal and happy February!
