Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme created by The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Books That Make You Think

1. If I Lie by Corrine Jackson – This book will pull at every emotion inside of you. It’s absolutely beautiful and it leaves you no choice but to think about for days to come. I honestly didn’t expect to love this book when in fact it has made me rethink every five star review I have ever given and… as it stands right now it’s probably my favorite book of 2012.

2. The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold – The struggle this family goes through to let their daughter go after her murder is just heartbreaking.

3. And I Don’t Want to Live This Life by Deborah Spungen – This book was absolutely heartbreaking. I cried multiple times reading it and thought about it for days later. Deborah Spungen tells the story of her daughter’s murder and the haunted life she lived. I couldn’t help just trying to imagine the struggle that Nancy went through.

4. Sarah’s Key by Tatiana De Rosnay – Oh my gosh.. this book was powerful. That’s really all I have to say… it’s beautifully written.

5. Unbearable Lightness by Portia de Rossi – If you like to read non fiction this is a great choice. It’s about Portia’s struggle with anorexia as she comes into the public eye. It’s a wonderful story, with a lot of sadness but a lot of happiness as well.

6. Charlie St. Cloud by Ben Sherwood – As soon as I finished this book I went and googled the movie, I just couldn’t get enough of Charlie St. Cloud. Turns out I didn’t watch the movie as the ending is different and I loved the ending but I still couldn’t stop thinking about it. It’s a wonderful story about family.

7. My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult – I still think about this book and I read it when it first came out almost 7 years ago. I think the reason it affected me most is because I have a sister and we are also incredibly close and I almost could imagine doing that for my own sister. It is heart wrenching how much love is in this book and the ending just completely throws you off course.

8. Blow by Blow by Detmar Blow – I’m not so much into non fiction autobiographies/biographies any more however I used to love reading them about celebrities I admired or intrigued me. Isabella Blow was one of them. I knew she was a haunted individual but the way her husband tells the story is amazing. It’s such a sad, sad story but it really makes you appreciate her short life and the love people had for her.

9. White Oleander by Janet Fitch – I’m not sure what it is about White Oleander. I love this movie, I’ve seen it over 20 times and I’ve read this book atleast 3 times. I just love this story. It’s not fun and it’s not an easy read. In fact it’s an extremely sad story however it’s raw and emotional and beautiful in it’s own way.

10. The Dollanganger Series by V.C. Andrews – I first read this book years ago when I was definitely a young adult however at the time I was hiding it because I didn’t think I should be reading it. I was shocked now that I’m actually reading Young Adult books to learn this is actually a Young Adult series! I remember thinking this was an adult series because my mom owned Seeds of Yesterday! Next to Harry Potter this will be probably my favorite series from my teenage years. It’s absolutely horrific and astonishing but it’s just such an addictive series.

So now that that is done I’ve realized that every single one of my “Books that made me Think” should actually be categorized to “Books that made me cry”. lol. The books that really make me think are ones that really are just heart wrenching and leave tear stains on my pillow 😛

Does anyone else share any of these books??

Happy Reading!

  1. White Oleander is a great book- it made me want to take in foster kids (and I was only 19 when I read it, haha). Unfortunately her follow up novel was less-than stellar, but WO is fantastic.

    • Hi Christine! It does make you want to, right? I didn’t even know she had a follow up- I’m kind of glad, White Oleander was so beautiful to me so I’ll keep it like that(especially since it’s less than stellar!)

      Thanks for dropping in 🙂
