Top Ten Goals/Resolutions For 2015

I’ll be honest, 2014 was not the greatest year for blogging for me. I wasn’t in a ‘slump’, I think I just got lazy. I’ve had an exhausting year at work and with low vitamins/minerals, when I got home I just wanted to veg out or sleep. And I moved and I just could not get organized, I felt all over the place and just blah. It wasn’t just blogging that suffered either, I stopped doing Yoga for the most part, which I absolutely love. I’m planning on getting my butt back in gear in 2015 and getting organized with blogging and just READING! You can totally tell I was feeling unmotivated in 2014 based on the amount of books alone I read: nearly 50 less than I did the previous year. And not because I didn’t want to. I’m working hard on getting things organized already, so, hopefully, the majority of these come to fruition 🙂

1. Commenting and being more social

I said this would be a goal in 2014 or at least the commenting part and I’m pretty sure I failed miserably. This is really important to me. I want to be more active commenting and I really want to be more social. I feel like that has slipped considerably this year and I want that to change, bit time. “She was filled with good intentions…” is probably my unintentional mantra. I INTEND to do all these things, and then I don’t. blah. I had a system, which clearly doesn’t work for me, so I’m in the process of figuring out how I can get at this!

2. Reread more books

I almost forgot how much I love rereading until I reread two favorites this year. I miss it. I LOVE reading stories that I previously loved, and this has really slid backward since I started blogging. I am going to change that for sure, which is why I’m participating in the Reread challenge 🙂

3. Post more discussion and organization posts

I wanted to do this more as it was one of my goals last year. And didn’t. I’ve already starting seriously drafting some of these posts for the New Year, so I can’t wait to have more of these. I love reading discussion posts, but I always feel so uninspired on my own blog. AND my organization posts have really fallen to none, which makes me sad because I loved doing them. This, friends, will change!

4. Read at least 100 books

Well, as I said above, my reading fell big time. I plan to change that. I’m getting back on the reading bus this year (and shutting Netflix off :P)!

5. Schedule at least two weeks in advance

I used to do this, and it’s clear that this directly ties into my participation in the bookish community. When I scheduled things in advance, I had a lot more time to comment, chat on Twitter, and definitely to read. A lot of the time this year, I would just give up on drafting a post for the very next day, and just not post anything. I’m getting back into creating a backlog, and plan to consistently keep up with this goal!

6. Limit the review copies. Severely.

I have an upcoming post on this exact topic and the books I’ve purchased, but this has GOT to stop. I obtain WAY too many review copies. It’s largely related to the fact that I am auto approved with Harpercollins on Edelweiss, but really, I was taking in more books than I could read last year. Especially with my reading being so low. I’m only planning on taking the maximum of 5 titles this year  month*, obviously with room for an extra here or there depending on what happens, but this is probably one of the most important goals to me.
*Gosh,  I realized this when going to comment tonight that I put YEAR! I wish it could be a yearly expected total haha, but I definitely meant month 😛

7. Stop purchasing books (with limitations)

You will see the severity of this issue in my upcoming post, but this is out of control. I plan on only buying books if I am reading it immediately upon purchase, or if it’s a title that I have already read and want to add to my collection. I’m not going to go on a book buying ban because I know for someone like me, that’s not going to work so I know there will be times where I get a few at once (Book Outlet orders for instance, it doesn’t make sense to order one book for instance if they have a sale and I have to pay for shipping anyway) but this is going to be drastically scaled back.

8. Get up to date & finish series that I’m ‘currently’ reading

Oh wow, I need to do this in a BAD way. I am the worst for starting and putting aside series so much, and I really want to finish up the series I’m working with. I just need to get caught up before I saunter off to a new one 😛

9. Read my bookshelf

Yah, I have run out of room on my TBR bookshelf (it’s bad enough that I must have one of those haha) and have started to overflow onto the ‘read’ shelves. This is bad. I have Ikea billy bookcases… there was lots of room on that shelf 😛

10. Finish my book room

Jeez, I really need to finish this. Considering I have been working on it for 6 months, I need to get this in order. And before like March. That’s my real goal 🙂

Phew. That’s a load, but here’s to hoping 🙂 What are your resolutions/goals for 2015?

  1. I miss rereading as well! I read the first three books of HP during a semi-slump and it felt SO right! Kind of like visiting and old friend 😀

I’ve been working on cutting back on review stuff as well, and I’m down to 6 now, so it’s totally doable!

  2. I’m trying to be more selective with the review titles that I download from EW, but it’s so hard when you’re auto approved and all you have to do is click and get ALL THE BOOKS! I’m trying to do better though and I just downloaded 1 from the recent HarperCollins additions 🙂

  3. Woah book room!? That sounds epic! Maybe a tour when you’re done? haha. I’ve always wanted a room with just my bookshelves, a comfy chair/sofa and a computer. Kinda like a study room. Anyways, I totally feel you about being slumped with HC galleys. I’m autoapprove too and I’m drowning with ARCs xD I want to read them all though so my goal for next year is..well..to read them all haha.

  4. I see more people who want to reread books and that makes me happy. A lot of people seem to think they don’t have the time for it with all the upcoming new books, but sometimes you got to rediscover the old magic 😀 I’m also limiting my review copies, although I haven’t been very successful so far.. Haha, good luck!

  5. This is such a great list! I have many of the same goals, even though I didn’t verbalize many of the things on your list. I often feel really out of the loop in the blogosphere because I’m not as active on Twitter, and I wish that I had more time to devote to expanding my online presence, whether through Twitter or just commenting on blogs.

I also used to have my posts scheduled in advance, and have seen the number of posts dwindle once I was slacking on my scheduling. It definitely makes blogging fun when I can write a post when I want to, rather than when I should.

Ahhhh, the series thing! I’m soooooooo with you on that one. And review books — I’m definitely reading WAY less of those next year!

I keep wanting to reorganize my shelves into “read” and TBR” shelves, except that my books and my husband’s books are all mixed up. Also, because I’m scared to see how many books would be on the TBR shelf. Really, really scared.
