🖤Two for Tuesday: Mini Reviews🖤

I’ve been picking along at the Meet Cute collection and I’ve finished it off now with the two today. Sadly, these were not good for me, which is why I’m posting mini reviews. I enjoyed this collection quite a bit and it’s disappointing it’s ending on a lower note.

With Any Luck by Ashley Poston
⭐️⭐️💫

This was my first Ashley Poston book, and unfortunately, doesn’t entice me to pick up any of her others.

The entire plot felt rushed (I mean technically… it was rushed haha) and just did not have enough build up, in my opinion.

I thought it was pretty obvious what had happened from the beginning of the book and I was just waiting to reach the end.

Royal Valentine by Sariah Wilson
⭐️⭐️

Oh my gosh, this was so boring. And honestly the biggest turn off was, what initially thought was printing errors but then realizing it was mimicking the Scottish dialect. I’ve not saw this before in any books with Scottish characters… please correct me if I’m wrong.

I did not care one bit about either of the characters. Or the plot. Im glad it was a quick read… and I almost DNFed it.

All in all this collection is great, but if you didn’t read this two, you aren’t missing much. Or read them first so the rest of the series is on a high note!

🖤Scavenger Hunt Challenge🖤

@theyegbibliophile tagged me in this challenge and I love a challenge where I have to remind myself of what books I still have to read 😂 I decided to further challenge myself by only using books on my TBR so here we go!

•Over 500 Pages: Chain of Thorns by Cassandra Clare. This books is massive. As they all are honestly. I need to get to it soon but I also feel like I might need a reread but the first two are equally as large 😂
•One Word Title: Bride by Ali Hazelwood. I started this, got a few chapters in, and then set it aside so I absolutely need to pick this back up in May.
•Cartoon Cover: Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood. Obviously I love Ali Hazelwood haha. I also started this one and put it aside… I have the worst habit of doing that sometimes.
•Less than 300 pages: Half Blood by Jennifer L Armentrout. I’ve had this book for way too long. Why haven’t I read it yet?!?
•Newest to the Shelf: Six Scorched Roses by Carissa Broadbent. I just picked this up and have to read the series it’s for first haha. So it will be awhile.

Review: Brutal Prince by Sophie Lark
⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Sophie Lark was one of those authors that was high up on my to read list. I’ve heard such good things about her books, and that she writes fantastic dark/mafia romance. I decided to start with the Brutal Birthright series, and first up was Brutal Prince.

I definitely wouldn’t call Brutal Prince dark romance. It’s mafia romance for sure but I think it’s a good first book for anyone that wants to dabble in a bit of a darker theme, as it’s not particularly dark.

I liked both of the MC’s enough, and I enjoyed learning about the family history as well as meeting the other members of the family (that we will see in future books). The plot was fine, it wasn’t anything jaw dropping but I was entertained the whole time reading. It’s a fast paced book so it’s easy to finish it in one or two sittings.

Overall, I liked Brutal Prince and I will definitely be continuing on with this series and with Sophie Larks other books. I’m especially excited to get to the Kingmakers series.

Happy Canadian Independent Bookstore Day!

I am so fortunate to be surrounded by an absolute TON of indie bookstores here in Calgary and I knew I’d have to squeeze atleast one into my day today.

I was so happy to stop in to @slowburn.booksyyc , it’s been quite awhile since I’ve been there and I was so excited to see what I would pick up today. Their shelves are always really stocked, and if you love romance you will absolutely find something here…. They have SO many sub genres!

I grabbed a copy of WHERES MOLLY by H.D. Carlton since I loved it and I am fortunate enough to have grabbed tickets for @bb4eevents in Vancouver, July 2025. I also picked up SIX SCORCHED ROSES by Carissa Broadbent, this cover is beautiful and it’s the same naked hardcover as my indie editions.

I also got this cheeky bookmark 💀🌶️😂 !

Review: Darling Girls by Sally Hepworth
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I was really looking forward to Darling Girls; Sally Hepworth is an author I enjoy so much but her endings can be hit or miss and I was hoping this would be a good one for me.

AND IT WAS.

I had figured out the twists by the end (more or less) but this was SO well done. I essentially read it in two sittings and it wasn’t by choice… I would have read it in one if I was able.

I was so invested in the sisters, I liked each of them. I also felt so SAD for them. The dual timeline and dual POVs lent so much to the story.

Darling Girls releases today and I highly recommend.

I had a great Friday evening celebrating @utterlyhookedonbooks and @mama.reads.yyc birthdays with @wordsbetweenlines . It’s always the best time with these three and the time just seems too short always.

Kelsey also surprised me with this incredible gift from her mom that she made. I am beyond words with how thoughtful and beautiful this is. 🖤

Review: Daughter of Mine by Megan Miranda
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

I love Megan Miranda’s books, I am very rarely disappointed and Daughter of Mine is no exception.

The way Daughter of Mine reads is so interesting. It’s almost a slow burn of a thriller, where little nuggets of information for the plot are dropped and it gets more and more foreboding. It’s not super fast paced but it was impossible for me to put down. You have almost zero idea who to trust, and even though I definitely had suspicions… I didn’t really know what was going on.

As I was reading this, I honestly thought it would be a 5 star read. My one disappointment was the epilogue. I would have liked a bit more. There were a few plot points that were opened that were either not talked about as much as I would have liked or just not circled back to. Other than that, this was phenomenal, one of my favourites of hers for sure.

What’s a favorite series that you don’t feature a lot on your Bookstagram?

Mine is definitely ACOTAR. I love this series soooo much. I’ve read it many times and every time I think I love it a bit more. I’m going to do another reread this year because it’s already been too long 🖤

(Also I cannot express enough dismay at the fact that ACOSF does not match my original hardcovers).
